There are three National Wildlife Preserves on the island: the Hanalei National Wildlife Preserve, Huleia National Wildlife Preserve, and Kilauea National Wildlife Preserve.
But there are plenty of outdoor activities available on the island, from golf to snorkeling to windsurfing and more. Horseback riding is available in a number of areas and at a number of skill levels. While horseback riding on the beach is not allowed in Hawaii, there are a number of horseback rides that go to the beach.
